Metsa help

Ever needed to practise a piece with a changing time signature?

Simple and Advanced

Metsa has 2 modes - the always free 'Simple' mode, and an 'Advanced' mode.
Simple mode is a traditional metronome. Advanced allows you to chain multiple bars with differing time signatures together.

 Create your piece

Move time signatures from the top and add to your piece below by long-pressing and then dragging.

Add  time signature

Need a new time signature?
Click on the blank time signature at the top right to create any time signature you could ever need.

Edit your piece.

Press and hold a bar to edit the time signature.
Tap on the 'x' to clear all bars from your piece and start again.

Add count - in

Add a 2 bar count - in before the start of your piece.
Save your piece so you can come back to it later.

More editing options

To select a bar just tap it in your piece.
Add repeats of selected bar (to save you adding identical bars manually)
Delete selected bar

Beat strength

You can alter the strength of each beat in a bar.
Select the bar you'd like to edit by tapping on it in your piece.
Then tap on the relevant beat to alter its strength.
There are 3 levels - off, normal and strong.
This could be used to divide a 7/8 bar into 3 + 4 or 4+ 3 for example.

Tempo

Change the tempo of individual bars with the arrows.
Remember to first select a bar by tapping on it in your piece.
Long pressing an arrow will speed up the change.
You can also alter the basic pulse unit here (for example change from crotchet to quaver)

Play!

Pressing play will start Metsa from the currently selected bar.
The back button will take you back to the start of your piece.
On the right of the 'play' button is your library. Use this to load a previously saved piece.

Playback speed

Start Metsa at half speed, then gradually increase the tempo as you improve.

Simple mode features

Tap the tempo if you're not sure of the exact speed.
Add beat subdivisions.

Subdivisions

Simple mode allows you to add beat subdivisions. For example triplet quavers in 4/4.

Settings

Choose from 10 different sounds.
Choose whether Metsa opens in Advanced or Simple mode
Keep your screen on. (May affect battery life)

Preferences

Show bar numbers in Advanced mode.
Choose whether to play all compound beats or just the pulse.
For example - play 2 beats in 6/8 or all 6 beats.
